CLE is a voluntary, non-profitable organisation, supported by a small per-household annual subscription.
CLE was founded in 2003 as an informal group of non-French nationals living in the area who wanted to meet other people to exchange news, views, ideas and information
Interest grew as the number of non-French nationals within the region increased, until it was felt necessary to put the group on a formal footing. The Charente-Limousine-Exchange was formed as an Association within French law in October 2004, with a registered address located at the Social Centre in Confolens.
Since then the number of interested people who have become members has expanded to include British, German, Dutch, French and American members
The objectives of the association are clearly defined (See CLE Constitution). They concentrate on the sharing of experiences, skills and knowledge between members and improving the provision of French language courses, plus providing information to members on living and working within the local community and tackling practical issues relating to the rise in numbers of non-French nationals within our departments
The Association is run entirely by volunteers who organise the varied programme of events throughout the year, as well as organising a wide range of social and cultural activities, workshops and seminars
An excellent rapport has been established with many local authorities and CLE is continually looking at ways to expand upon these relationships.
